# Welcome to PNG Land Self proclaimed "PNG Land" is a small island nation in the Pacific Ocean. It is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The country's capital is Port Moresby. The population of over 8 million inhabits PNG's most eastern islands, including the Bismarck Archipelago, Bougainville Island, the Trobriand Islands, and the Louisiade Archipelago. The country is one of the most diverse in the world, with over 850 indigenous languages and at least as many traditional societies, out of a population of just under 8 million. It is also one of the most rural, as only 18 percent of its people live in urban centres. The country is one of the world's least explored, culturally and geographically, and many undiscovered species of plants and animals are thought to exist in the interior of PNG. The majority of the population live in traditional societies and practise subsistence-based agriculture. These societies and clans have some explicit acknowledgement within the nation's constitutional framework. The PNG Constitution expressly protects traditional communities and their ownership of land and natural resources, and obligates the state to actively pursue the economic development of traditional communities. Although the nation has 850 spoken languages, only 3 languages have official status: English, Tok Pisin, and Hiri Motu. --- Path: about.md
